Our Definition of Home!

This promises to be a shorter blog! However, we feel it’s important that you know – we get it! We understand the home buyer’s viewpoint. Most of us are home owners and have been through the process! We deal with hundreds of hopeful home buyers! So we know the emotions – the ups and downs – the frustrations – the fears – we have lived it!

So with that being said – what are we really even talking about? We are saying that your house isn’t your home! I know we have all heard this! However, when you are in the middle of the process or if you are thinking about starting it; then it’s easy to get caught up in the ‘not home’ part of it. It’s a very important part of it; but it’s not your motivation! You are not looking for a ‘deal’ – you are looking for a home!

We all want a home! What IS a home? It’s a smile when you see someone pull in the driveway! The smell of the holidays when you walk through the door! The place you want to run to when things go wrong! The place you can’t wait to get to when you want to share good news! It’s where we celebrate those 1st birthdays and retirement parties! It’s good night stories and bath time for the kids! It’s giggles and tears! It’s cooking in the kitchen with your family! Eating at the kitchen counter while you discuss your day! Hearing family singing in the shower OR singing in the shower knowing they love you anyway!  Stepping over shoes and being frustrated – only to realize years later how much you miss having those shoes to step over! Home work time! It’s where we have our arguments and we make up! It’s the feeling we get when it’s freezing outside and we step through the door to the warmth of family! Pies cooling on the stove! Holding hands on the couch during movie night! The dog running to the door to say hi after you have had a long day! It’s bike rides and dog walks through the neighborhood! Maybe it’s that 1st threshold you walk across as a new home owner or as a new couple and the smile you get at the new adventure! Maybe it’s new beginnings and new hope! The hugs we share when we haven’t seen each other in a long time or the embrace of friend who just stopped by to say hi! IT’s those quiet still moments when we watch our kids playing in the yard or peacefully sleeping at night! It’s full of smells, music, noise, silence, family dance nights in the living room – that picture on the wall that was granddads! It’s:  ‘insert your hope here’!

It’s way more than square footage – it’s more than the carport or the wallpaper – more than the rate – more than the paperwork! It’s memories, moments, and most important…where life happens! You can always buy a house – but when we do it’s always with the intention of making it a home!
